Kevin's Twin Turbo LS1Tech Extreme Modified Project Car
Kevin's
car was an exercise in design and engineering for a sweet twin turbo street
car. The total package was designed around the rules for the LS1Tech Drag
Racing Series for the Extreme Modified class. The rules are fairly simple
with regards to the power adder of choice. In Kevin's case his twin turbo
car is limited to a pair of 60mm Precision GT40 turbos (Okay, so they
actually measure a shade above 58mm). The essence of the packaging was to
keep the car a budget buildup with all of it's streetable characteristics.
The car still has it's factory heat, stereo, power windows, locks and even
the carpet. It's far
stretched
from a full on race car despite the use of Kirkey racing seats and the TH400
transmission. Weighing in at 3500 pounds the car is capable of high 8 second
passes in the mid 150 MPH territory. It's the first car in the Extreme
Modified class to reach the 8's in competition. With the fall weather
approaching more cold weather testing will be performed to see if the car
can pick up some ET with the lower air temperatures.
